In this section we have included resources relating to food security and water. At the bottom of the page, you can find resources produced by Centre staff for classroom use.
Primary
Trócaire's Maji pack is filled with water activities for Early Years. Through exploring photos of Kenyan children using water in various ways, very young children can develop an understanding of how water is a critical issues around the world.
Oxfam's Water for All is an extensive online learning resource targeted specifically at the 9-13 age group. It includes lesson plans, photos, case studies, maths and a quiz.
Water Aid's website for young people, Splash Out, has a selection of games and activities, focusing on how clean water can help to prevent killer diseases.
The TIDE Global Learning Centre, has good water diary sheets that can be used to chart water usage and to create action plans for reducing water waste.
Water.org is an NGO dedicated to finding solutions to the world water crisis and have a good collection of primary lesson plans.
The EPA has provided a good lesson plan which links to the Irish primary science curriculum.
Second Level
Trócaire's Stewards of the Earth focuses on why we should take responsibility for climate change around the world.
Geology.com has compiled lesson plans suitable for second level students that focus on Geology, Geography and Environment Studies.
The United Nations, MTV and hip-hop artist and businessman Jay Z teamed up to produce, Water for Life, a video diary of his travels throughout Africa examining how water shortages are impacting the lives of people throughout the continent. The United Nations has developed lesson plans to accompany the video.
