Human Rights
In this section, we have included resources on human rights issues. At the bottom of the page, we have listed our dvd's that are available from our library, along with workshop plans to accompany them and other resources produced by Centre staff for classroom use.
Primary Level
Oxfam's lesson series for ages 8 to 10 that explores children's rights and the differences between wants and needs.
The Human Rights Education Associations online book, Exploring Children's Rights, provides lesson plans for 9 small human rights projects with 4 lessons per project.
Second Level
Trócaire's Pamoja Programme provides a model for teachers to promote human rights and development education. It can be used as a transition unit or a development education module. The Pamoja Resources page provides a teachers manual and support materials for using the unit.
National Youth Council of Irelands resource pack, More Power to Youth, explores what power is and how it is used at a global level both positively and negatively. Specifically, it aims to empower young people to use power positively.
Oxfam's, Developing Rights, is suitable for CSPE and is designed to help young people think about their own rights and those of young people around the world.
